Basic:

Restart Your Computer:

  • Power off the computer and turn it back on to confirm the error is persistent.

Check Boot Order:

  • Access the BIOS/UEFI by pressing F2, F12, Del, or Esc (varies by manufacturer) during startup.
  • Ensure the correct drive (where Windows is installed) is set as the primary boot device.

Intermediate:

Use Automatic Repair:

  • Insert a Windows installation USB/DVD and boot from it.
  • Select Repair your computer > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.

Rebuild the Boot Configuration Data (BCD):

  • Boot from the Windows installation USB/DVD.
  • Open Command Prompt (Shift + F10 or through the Advanced Options > Command Prompt).
  • Run the commands:
 
 
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd

Advanced:

  1. Check for Drive Issues:
    • In Command Prompt, type:
 
 
chkdsk C: /f /r
  • Replace C: with the drive where Windows is installed.
start-up error lost boot manager
